To protect my investment, I slab some of my choice coins. First, you buy slabs with holes that are equal (nearly impossible) or slightly smaller than the specimen that I'm going to encase. Next, use a long round file (not flat edged) to widen the existing hole to the same diameter as the coin. It may take several tries before getting the right diameter. When finished, use a fine rasp file to smooth over the rough edges inside the hole. Next, seat the coin in the modified hole. The fit should be snug not loose. If necessary, take a clean soft cloth and gently wipe off any smudges on the coin that may be left behind. Lastly, place the slab frame inside the cover plates, and lock the two ends together to seal the coin. If desired, you can use a word processor or printing software to make stickers for the slab frame to document your coins.

I fully agree with this. I use CoinWorld slabs, and dremel the holes if adjustment is needed. They end up costing around $1.50 per slab including the insert, and there are tons of sizes available. I spent about $45 initially on an order, and still have tons of them left for new purchases. I've printed labels using a textured background and printed on photo-grade paper.
This just makes good sense for those of us with coins/tokens that the TPGs won't grade, or coins at a value that wouldn't make sense to professionally slab at today's TPG prices.

Nice Moldavian coin :) Several years ago my daughter bought one from Aleks Basok, out of his $10 box, of course the coin is worth a lot more - she has an eye for coins. Coincidentally she was born only about 2km from Moldavian border. So maybe she knows these coins genetic or something?

Thanks 'scottishmoney'. I just used this specimen as an example. Your daughter was quite lucky to find a Sadagura coin for $10 (regardless of condition). I don't think that would happen here in the U.S. though. As you said, she would have to have a good eye to know what to pick out of the mix. Maybe as you said, maybe it's in the blood.
