1709 Vatican
« on: November 09, 2010, 05:46:40 PM »
Pope Clemens XI (1700-1721).
Minted in 1709 (AN8)  "The Vatican leading, of the pope processions to the peace foundation between France and Austria"

PORTAVERVNT TABERNACVLVM FOEDERIS Procession with banner representing the Savior, led to shoulder from faithful and I continue from the Pontiff and monks; in exergue, MDCCIX

This is very scarce and historical medal. I will get a better pic of it now that I have good lighting for doing macro on the way. This piece is red and is toned very nicely.

Hi regandon,
Very nice medal.
I believe this is Spink 1636
I could look at Papal Medals all day and all night long.
Some coins are just plain "interesting"

Thanks JRocco. Its 40mm, and the rev. has very nice detail. I have a few more on the way from the reign of Clemens VIII (1592-1605).

An excellent medal and super photos.  : )

Congratulations.  : )
I have collected U.S coins for many years, and then Civil War Tokens, but am now actively building a collection of Conder Tokens,
the coins that made the Industrial Revolution a whopping success. : )

A little info. about the engraver of this medal.

Ottone Hamerani (1694–1768), also known as Otto Hamerani, was an Italian medallist.

Hamerani was born in Rome, Italy, the son of another medallist Giovanni Hamerani. He worked with several popes, and was named Master of the Mint at Rome from 1734 until his death in 1768.
