In Search of Excellence: Finest Examples
« on: September 25, 2010, 09:30:30 PM »
Even as Hungary suffered the agony of total defeat, her banknotes -- this one for Billion -- maintained the standards of excellence known in Central Europe for 50 years.  You can find the same style in the paper of German-occupied Slovakia.  It is odd and sad...

Mike,
Zimbabwe has had the world record for the most zeroes depicted on a banknote - the 100 Trillion Dollars.

This note ceased to circulate within a month of being put into circulation.

Yes,Zimbabwe is one country whose notes are of interest to me.

Hard to say what makes a note "beautiful" or "excellent."  You know bad art when you see it, but there is a lot of good production out there.  The question is one of aesthetic standards.  Is "pretty" the same as "excellent"?

A lady who actually was a lot more beautiful than her portrait on this banknote would suggest:
