Title: 1848 Frankfurt Taler
Post by: regandon on March 07, 2013, 12:02:26 PM
This is my second one of this commemorative. This one is PCGS MS63, which I feel is undergraded. But with just only over 30,000 minted, there are not many high grade ones on the market.

The coin is a 2 Gulden which is over a Taler in denomantion as it is a 1-1/3Taler.

That is very nice Don. Since its denomination is more than a Taler, is
it the same size as a Taler or larger?
I thought Talers were one of the largest coin diameters?

It is larger than a Taler from the mid to late 1800's. After the mid 1800's the Taler went down in size and weight. The 2 Gulden weight was .6138, and the Taler was .5360.

Some more info.

2/3 Taler = One Gulden
1-1/3 Taler = Two Gulden
2 Taler = 3 and a Half Gulden

I am thinking of sending it in to NGC to see if they will grade it higher.
