This 1861 Taler has a minage of 10,000 pieces. It is what is called a Mining Taler. If you look on the rev. you will see two mining hammers.
To it looks like PCGS missed the grade on this Taler. It is much better then AU-58. I understand that the TPGS are not perfect, but this Taler is mint state.

Very :signcool; design. I like the obverse.
As to the grade, it looks mint state to me but PCGS and NGC is very tough on grading and toning
the last year or so.

That is pretty cool! I also agree that they may have been conservative on the grade. Looks MS to me from the picture.

The details of the obverse are what really make this a nice piece. The pattern on the bear, brick and the door are just wonderful, can see how that may be lost and not conveyed on some lower grades.
Difficult to see how they are finding wear on those fine details.
