Apparently, if you are not a member, you can not access anything on the CU Website.
Most interesting indeed.
-
I thought that you always had to be a member to access there price guide :HMMMMM;
-
No, you had to be a member only if you wanted to be able to reply to a thread and to sent PMs.
Some functions were recently restricted to a 995 dollar a month fee, but the forums were still
basically open to everyone. This seems to be another Don Willis special. No doubt, one will not
only have to be a Forum member, but also pay for a platinum membership to get access. Another
fund raising idea from the suits. Not a bad idea, but if true, it will make it difficult to reach the CU
membership unless one is a paying member. I guess the suits need more money and they are afraid
of losing part of their 30,000 base. Time will tell if this is a beneficial move or if it just a pklain old
stupid move. I guess it is a little like charging for bathroom privileges on an airplane flight.
-
When did this happen?
My membership expired in Sept.2009 and up until a few weeks ago I was able to access the price guide and now I can't........I guess they were slow in catching up to me :)
As far as PM'ing I just pm'd back and forth with a member last night and had no problems.
Has someone told you this?
-
This change has just talen effect within the past hour as I could access this morning.
-
I just replied in the copper thread and had no issue.......maybe I'm next :HMMMMM;
-
Were you able to sign in?
And if so some functions were not available to you?
-
I heard that they're charging a fee for pop reports, too. First CoinFacts, now pop reports, and the threat of charging for the forum....what does this say to us? :HMMMMM;
-
Stephanie, are you just a Forum member or are you a dues paying CU Member?

Yes, it is true just about the only free things on CU is your own registry and the forum
-
It sounds like the CU has declared war on collectors. Pay, or you can not play.

I was a paying the highest one (don't remember which)member all these years.
Forgot to rem=new and saw it expired this past September. So I can access anything but the forum and my own registry

How unfortunate. It will prove to be a poor business decision, I'm sure.
-
Bear...........can you sign into the forum?
-
I have a long memory for this kind of thing, too. While there are other TPGs who are more understanding and collector-friendly, we still have options.
BTW, I can view the general price guide but not details. (not a current member)
-
Even NGC will not let you see pop's without being a paying member
-
The Forums and price guide and B/S have just gone back up and are now available to me.
Perhaps it was a test of what is to come. Something is going on over at CU and I do not believe
that it is good.

Keep us posted if you hear anything, this could be interesting. :)
-
Maybe they are just doing some updating work on the website :HMMMMM;
-
Normally, when they do periodic maintenance, folks are warned and this time there was a strange notice.
Its as if it was a test and they hoped that no one would notice it............................but we did!

Did anyone else on the forum you know have the same thing happen to them?
-
As far as Collectors' Universe goes,they deserve to sink like sacks of shite.Their so-called 'moderators' are all wankers going on ego trips.
Have you had a look here; http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/Main_Page (http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/Main_Page) ?
You don't even have to be a member of P.C.G.S. or Collectors' Universe to be registered on there.

Yeah, ummm....I don't know about all that, but you don't have to be a memeber now to use the forum. Mr. Willis has suggested that they are working on changing that. I think that is the issue here, charging for what used to be free to all.
-
FilthyBroke,
I'd be really peeved if P.C.G.S. started charging to access http://www.coinfactswiki.com (http://www.coinfactswiki.com) .
It would be a shame to have articles such as http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/Banknotes_of_the_Reserve_Bank_of_Zimbabwe (http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/Banknotes_of_the_Reserve_Bank_of_Zimbabwe) left unfinished if P.C.G.S. end up being wankers & start charging you to retain an account to write up on there.

They have no plans to charge for that site. There is a much more important site that used to be available and now can be accessed by subscription only.
This is a much more sophisticated site http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/ (http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/)
-
Stefanie,
What they want to charge for accessing that website is a ripoff!
I can guess that Don Willis wants to emulate Doug Prather (a major league wanker over on Coin Talk) & piss off a majority of collectors.
