Title: How about a big PICTURE THREAD?
Post by: FilthyBroke on July 29, 2009, 07:13:12 PM
Let's start a thread to show what great diversity the darkside has!

Post one of your favorite coin designs, or a significant issue.

I'll start.

I have a rather modest collection, but it is tons of fun finding something new and unusual. Here's a French jeton, one of my favorite coins.

I do not know if I did this the correct way. This coin is from my German commemorative collection covering the yrs of 1901 to 1918.

Is this big enough? This a 25 Leke silver proof from Albania 1968. It measures 60 mm in diameter.

Welcome aboard,Larry!

I've got a worn example of one of those.

Yours are amazing.

There's a British Commonwealth traders' currency tokens group on www.coinnetwork.com/groups/ (http://www.coinnetwork.com/groups/) .

You should let the members of the Coinzip forum know about it as well.

Aidan.

Thanks for the welcome, Aidan.  : )

Mine are photos of only one token.

The ones that show the toning lit up were taken with axial lighting, which simulates tilting a coin toward the light.
Axial lighting does a good job of emphasizing the natural toning.

Nice coins 'Filthybroke'.  Here is a large coin from my collection. This is a 10 Kopek coin from Siberia 1780. It had been cleaned by one of the previous owners, and thus much of the patina had been removed. Otherwise, most of the details are visible. It measures 46 mm in diameter and 5 mm thick.

On the vane of Charles I medallions, this one was created by Nicolas Briot in 1633 and handed out by the King during his Scottish coronation in Edinburgh.  The King himself had a gold example which he carried in his pocket until he was executed.

Going to the auction block sometime soon, after I bought it my wife wanted me to sell it, but now it really must go to fund my other "hobby - interests":

And this is my oldest ever circulation find, when I was in the USA last year:

This is one cool design, it is concave and toned, therefore it shimmers ;D
and..........it is presented in a wooden box!
