Nice specimen. This is not my area of expertise, but the design looks cool. Thanks for sharing.

Daniel,
Canadian chartered bank notes are not an easy area of notaphily to get into.

In fact, most of the pre-1937 Canadian note issues are not easy to find.

Are the portraits depicted those of the signatory's ?

I have no background in Canadian money and was under the impression, at least on the coins, only living monarchs were depicted. Could other living contemporary's be depicted on the currency ?

Walmann,
The portraits are of the 2 guys whose signatures are printed on the note.

The last Canadian chartered bank notes were issued in 1943 by the Royal Bank of Canada.

Legislation was passed in 1945 to ban further issues of Canadian chartered bank notes,& gave the chartered banks until the end of 1949 to withdraw their notes.

It is the Bank of Canada that is now only allowed to issue notes,& reigning monarchs are the only living people allowed to appear on Canadian currency.

Interesting info. It's not often you see the face behind the name on the notes.

I was wondering if those were the bankers and their signatures. Those did not appear to be the portraits of figures of historical importance or royal blood.

Thanks for the follow up info.

Walmann,
The signatures are of the then General Manager & the then President of the Bank of Montreal.

Daniel, there's a whole chapter of Canadian chartered bank notes in the Pick Specialised catalogue.I'm not sure if Charlton has done a Canadian chartered bank note catalogue like they have done with Canadian government banknotes, such as the Albertan 1936 $1 Prosperity Certificate (which isn't even listed in Pick Specialised!).
