Central Asia~ Russian Occupation and Self Rule
« on: January 16, 2010, 07:29:32 PM »
Central Asia through it's history has been occupied and influenced by many different groups from the Macedonians and Mongols to the Persians. By the 19th century, the Russian Empire had expanded it's control into the Central Asian states of the EMIRATE OF BUKHARA in 1868, KHANATE OF KHIVA in 1875 and KHANATE OF KHOKAND in 1875. Although under occupation, the three territories enjoyed a degree of autonomy. Thus they issued their own coins in Turkic legend. These territories remained Russian subjects up until the revolution of 1917. The first specimen is a silver Tenga from BUKHARA dated 1307 AH/1889 AD issued under the reign of Emir: Abd Al-Ahad. The second is silver Tenga from KHIVA dated 1311 AH/1893 AD issued under Khan: Sayid Muhammad Rahim. The third is a silver Tenga from KHOKAND dated 1266 AH/1849 AD prior to Russian occupation under Khan: Muhammad Khudayar.

Following the Russian Revolution of 1917, BUKHARA and KHIVA declared independence. The first two specimens are from the EMIRATE OF BUKHARA, 3 Tenge 1336 AH/1917 AD and 10 Tenge 1337 AH/1918 AD issued under Emir: Sayyid Alim Khan. The third specimen is 5 Tenge from the KHANATE OF KHIVA dated 1337 AH/1919 AD issued under Khan: Sayyid Abdullah and Junaid Khan. Both territories maintained independence until 1920 when Soviet regiments invaded Central Asia.

This next specimen is 5 Tenge from the KHANATE OF KHIVA dated 1338 AH/1920 AH. This was last issue before the Soviet takeover.

The following are a series of coins from the KHWAREZM SOVIET PEOPLES REPUBLIC. Khwarezm was once a short-lived, but powerful empire in Central Asia from the 11th to the early 14th centuries. Formerly known as the Khanate of Khiva, the name 'Khwarezm' was temporarily restored during the Soviet order from 1920 until the republic was disolved, then reincorporated into the modern republic of Uzbekistan. Coming in 20, 25, 100 and 500 Ruble denominations, there are many die varieties for most of the denominations available.

Daniel,
You'd better get photos of these very nice coins uploaded onto Allnumis,Coinbrag,& Numista to really surprise a lot of people.

It is a shame that Vladimir Belyaev is such a jerk, then you'd be uploading photos onto http://www.zeno.ru as well.

Aidan.

Way ahead of you Aidan. I submitted to first three sites you mentioned. As for Zeno's site, well...I think you already know my opinion about them already.

Daniel,
You're not wrong about Zeno,& the attitudes of some of those who post on there.

If they weren't mean-spirited,we'd still be posting on there, including uploading photos.

If Vladimir Belyaev hadn't banned me off there,I'd still be uploading photos of my Asian & eastern African banknotes, coins,& postal orders onto Zeno, especially of countries that are not listed, but would be covered.

Aidan.
