  • This is a 2 Ducat Pattern that was minted in the free Imperial City of Hall. The Pattern commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Reformation. 200yrs prior to the minting of this Pattern, was very uneasy times across most of Europe. One man stood up against the mighty Catholic Church, and he would change the course of religious history.

What I find interesting about this Pattern, is that it was minted in an Imperial City ruled by Catholic Kings. This Pattern commemorates the man that stood up against the Pope and won.

  • Very nice Commemorative with a great and interesting past.

Quote"This Pattern commemorates the man that stood up against the Pope and won."

One of the few I would guess ;)

I will agree with you on that.

  • I really like that design.   It reminds me of a few of the italian papal state designs of the late 1600s.    I recall seeing a few testone and scudo pieces with very similar designs in my Krause.

I think a reformation themed collection of german state material would be quite interesting, albiet a bit expensive.   Frankfurt put out some incredible reformation anniversary pieces that same year.

  • I assume that is Noah's Ark on the reverse?

That was what I was thinking,  Noah's Ark.  Great design!

I found a French jeton with the ark design, but it's not done nearly as well as this one.

  •  Noah's Ark stands for a new beginning or creation. Which fits perfect with this commemorative.

Without question, they look great together. Now you need to collect a Noah's Ark theme set.
Which would probably consist of 3-5 coins :D
