Title: Some interesting US Coins in my collection....(scans)
Post by: Billy Kingsley on September 20, 2009, 11:08:31 PM
I am somewhat embarrased by the fact that although I am a semi-professional photographer, I cannot get decent pictures of my coins. I need to study up on it, I suppose. For now, please suffer through some scans with me :)

Here is my second oldest US coin, an 1835 dime. I got it in March of this year. It's not in very good shape, but I paid less then $20 for it, so I am happy :)

I have had this 1865 3 cent piece for a very long time, I don't know where I got it from. Some of the letters appear to be missing. Is this a grease strike, or some other sort of error? I hope it's not a fake...it looks like old nickel, there is no seam on the edge, the surfaces are smooth, not showing typical casting marks, and as a plus I've had it for at least 15 years, which is before the current wave of Chinese fakes, isn't it? If I ever have any coin certified, it would likely be this one, just for piece of mind. (I don't plan to though, not in the near future)

This is one of the more interesting coins in my collection. I recieved it as a gift earlier in 2009, it had been a pocket piece before I recieved it. It happens to be an 1876 CC half dollar! My oldest half and only Carson City minted coin I own.

I nabbed this 1914D quarter off of Ebay last year; it's one of only two coins I've purchased on Ebay. It cost me less then $10, and it's the second oldest quarter I own, I also have a 1900 that has yet to be scanned.
It looks a LOT better in person, the scan makes it look somewhat nasty.

My third oldest quarter, and my only Standing Liberty. I am a little dubious to this coin's condition...I am thinking it may have been wiped, at least along Liberty's body and shield, and if not, it was certainly slid across something. Also, the reverse, is that look natural?

My 4th oldest quarter. If only this were a branch mint issue...

I actually pulled this from circulation. I have also pulled a 1939 S from circulation, but unfortunatly, it's severly damaged. Sorry the reverse picture is a little crooked.

More to come, after I do some more scanning...eventually! :)

That Liberty Standing has been wiped, you can tell by the crud in lower places on the coin But it still looks nice!  C:-)

That's what I was thinking, too....but for the price I am not going to complain!
