Title: 1844 Seated Liberty Dime
Post by: Zantetsuken on October 30, 2009, 10:47:33 PM
Here's a very rare coin I inherited from my father a few years ago. This a Seated Liberty Dime dated 1844. According to records, there were only 72,000 minted for this date. As for how many of these still exist today is unknown.

Very nice coin. I believe they call this one the "Little Orphan Annie" variety.

Funny you should mention that name.  A coin dealer that I go to referred to this 'Little Orphan Annie' the other day. Thanks for the comment. Actually my father gave me this so I don't know if inherited is exactly the correct word since he was and still is alive (85 years old to be exact). He also gave me an 1893 $10 Gold coin which is also a beauty, among other U.S. and foreign coins.
