Title: ~~~~~Toned Gold~~~~~My kinda gold...:-)
Post by: coinsarefun on February 20, 2011, 03:50:34 PM
Nice little show at the Holiday Inn by Los Angeles Airport today.
Found this nice little piece of toned gold in a PCGS holder:D
A few scratches on the holder.
Sorry, the image is a little blurry but the  1926 $2.50 Sesquicentennial is the size of a dime!

Hi Stef,
Beautiful example.
The 1926 $2.50 Sesquicentennial is 10% copper  so these can tone really well....like yours :)

Very nice, but how does your 76 Kennedy Half compare?

Great looking coins Irvin.
Toned gold is really cool.
I love when gold displays the orange peel look and shows that
yellow-orangish look when stored properly and the alloy was mixed
thoroughly. Toned gold can be really beautiful.
I tried to capture the colors in this half eagle, but could only show
some of the effect....best I could do through plastic.

I like the re-cut date on this one - probably the reason I bought it.

While not as bright and flashy as my HE or as beautifully toned as Stef's I love when older gold mellows and takes on that older, darker toning took. I love this look seen on this 1832 British sovereign. My pics are not great for the color, but I think you can get the idea.
