Speaking of Token/ Coin designs.......
« on: October 25, 2010, 12:11:16 PM »
I received this one in the mail today from Stack's and thought it was pretty cool.
And.........it was free :Funny;

Well, probably not for free, because I have won several auctions ;)

btw, my mother is doing much better and I am home now so I will begin working
on the token design images and getting them ready to vote on.

First off, I'm so glad to hear that your mother is doing better.  Hope everything is getting back to normal for your both. :)

I like that token, how big is it?  Is it silver?  Looks like it from the pics, pretty cool!

Thanks, she is doing well and hopefully she will be moved out of intensive care in a few days.

As far as the token goes I'm not sure if it's silver or aluminum. I put a magnet to it and nothing so it could be either one. The size is a little lager than a quarter.

Probably? Aluminum.
Only an eccentric would send out silver medals.

Using Archimedes Principle you could immerse it in water and weigh it then calculate the specific gravity.
Someone just told me that today.  I need to determine if a token of mine is bronze, with some tin in it.

So glad that your mom is getting along.  I know it's tough to deal with.
I hate it when anything bad affects anybody, and especially friends.

I think that if it were aluminun you would know it right off by it's light weight.  I had an aluminum world's fair token that was very noticably lighter than other metals.

I found out it's silver coated over zinc. Maybe it will tone? :D

I received my VA Medal today : ).

I received my VA Medal today : )

I received this VA medal today and photographed it right away.
The even more special part is that I helped design it, on my computer. : )

The medal is the result of a coin design contest held by a VA Regional Office.
An employee there, a friend of mine and an illustrator, sketched some designs
and asked me to put them on the computer and lay them out as a coin design,
so she could submit a professional-looking design.

For the reverse she had drawn a sketch with two VA personnel, one also a soldier
now on active duty in Iraq, the other a lady veteran who also works at their VARO.

My friend, another Conder Token collector,  won the contest.

Later, VA management requested that she revise the reverse design to eliminate the employees,
who were recognizable. The obverse remained as submitted.

The quote on the reverse was uttered by Abraham Lincoln. It's part of the VA motto.

After engraving and striking, and addition of some finishing processes, they presented these medals to employees in a meeting.
My friend asked if she might have one for me, and explained why. They gave her this medal for me.

This Veteran's day will be more special to me than any in the past,
