The Lincon Cent 1909-Present
« on: January 21, 2011, 07:24:03 PM »
Hey Steph,
Mind if we post some threads dedicated to an entire series of coins?
If anyone would like to post some pics of a coin in the series and either say something about the coin/year/variety or just post some nice pics showing off some coins in that series would be great. I would love to see a thread filled with a bunch of real peoples coins.

If not for the famous and dramatic 1955 DDO-1, this DDO would be considered a major DDO for the year. Instead, many have no knowledge of this awesome DDO in the Lincoln series. This is the 1955 DDO-2, also known as the 1955 DDO-FS-021.9.
Most examples of this die variety are Late Die State examples that can almost go unnoticed.

The biggie DDO-1 is believed to be available in quantities ranging from 8,000 to 16,000, URS-15
The 55 DDO-02 on the other hand is believed to be an URS-7 variety, or only 33 to 64 known examples (Akin to a R5--R5+ rarity).

Keep an eye out for this variety in every 55 search.

Not sure if anyone here is interested in die trails. It is a really fascinating area of numismatics and thought to be a form of doubling in the new era of the single squeeze coinage process, but upon further field work some older coinage has been shown to have this effect.
Here is one of the major examples I have found on a 1994 Lincoln (and one of the strongest example found to date).
This one is listed as the 1994P-1DER-045T. If you might be interested in learning more about die trails please visit the site:
Traildies.com to find out more about this really interesting die state.

I remember seeing that one on Ken's site Stef and looking for it in some 55S rolls, but haven't found one. I guess I just have to keep looking.
Here is a nice variety. I purchased this coin back in the 80's and almost cracked it out of the holder several times, but I had a couple of these in my albums in lower grades and just kept putting off cracking her. Well now I guess I am glad I didn't because it is in a nice old PCGS gem rattler slab that bumps up the value a bit. I know some say that ALL rattlers are not upgradeable because they would have already been sent in. Not true. I have only sent one of my old rattlers in for review and it upgraded from 62 to 64...all my others  are still in bank boxes and never attempted since I purchased them in the 80's. Think this one could go 66?
PS - All those scratches are on the slab.

Not as showy as the big DDO's but a nice example.
I won this one from one of Jeremy's non profit auctions

I love the 95 DDO Stef, and yours looks great.
But in the world of DDO's the 55 is still my all time favorite. I am very lucky to have found this piece to add to my Lincoln collection.
Nothing beats the 55 DDO for it's doubling.

Nothing like your KING edition Lincolns - here's a humble 1960 D Linc with a nice polishing lines. I always find this one interesting.
