  • ...........I just had to show her off first. This medal by Chaplain was struck for the 1900 Universal Exposition. What I love about it the most is the way the he used a branch of leaves from the oak tree to give the appearance of a crown upon Marianne's head. This is the most beautiful rendition of Marianne that I have ever seen. It was struck in bronze and is 64mm.

    I like it so much that I have three of them.

  • I won this one and the other two just like it about 5 years ago on eBay. At that time, it costed $50-$75 for each one. Now, they rarely sell in good condition for less than $250. I have seen others sell for less, but they had condition problems.

    Here are two others that I got for less than $75 about the same time, and they aren't cheap any more. These were designed by Bottee and struck for the 1889 Universal Exposition. One is bronze and the other is silvered bronze. Both are 68mm. Note how Marianne is portrayed near the tree.
