Let's see some Mint Errors!
« on: February 04, 2010, 03:32:55 PM »
These two are my most prized errors because I got them directly from the Mint. The Kennedy half came from a $100 Mixed P & D bag. In 2000, the Mint stopped releasing half dollars into general circulation. Then, in 2004 they came up with the idea of selling this specialty bag of 2001's - half Philly & half Denver - for $135 or 68c per coin. There are only two of these known to exist. The owner of the other one sold it raw on eBay for $555 in May, 2005.

The second one is the 2005-S Kansas Silver Proof. There are only about 12 of these known to exist. What makes mine especially meaningful to me is that it is graded by NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo. How often do you find a Mint Error that is perfect?

Wow, that is a massive die break or is it a retained strikethrough? Is that a planchet lamination on the reverse? That deserves a [/b]2[/b] :signcool;

Thank you Stefanie :) And to make things right - I can show you one nice 1960 D Small date penny. I bought 10 of those for 1.49 dollar from Ebay for my Type-collection. And when I inspected them I was surprised to see some cool errors (Full E, full 6 and some excessive metal on the Linc. Memorial) and die polishing lines on few of them. I just like those lines - they are so dramatic :)
Well...nothing special but I like it,
Rok

P.S.
And as you can see - those extra metal on Linc. Memorial is from one of the other 9 coins.

Deagle, I like things like that, too! About 5 years ago, I bought 3-$50 Mint bags of Lincoln cents, 1-1980 & 2-1974. It took me 4-1/2 years just to search one bag.  :smack;

Anyway, here are some of the things I found in it to keep your "small date" company. The first two are partially retained strikethrough's.

Here are a couple of error coins from my collection. While this is not my area of expertise, I find these coins rather interesting. The first is 1 Denga from the RUSSIAN EMPIRE dated 1731. This has been double struck at 1-3 o'clock on the obverse, and 9-12 o'clock on the reverse. The second is 15 Kopek from the U.S.S.R. dated 1925. This has what appears to be either a die clash or brockage error. An incused and mirrored image of the letters 'OPEE' from KOPEEK appear between the sun and globe on the state arms.
